Unter der Federführung von Pininfarina entstand der Ferrari F50, ein Mittelmotor Sportwagen von Ferrari. Er wurde zwischen 1996 und 1997 anlässlich des 50-jährigen Firmenjubiläums in einer begrenzten Stückzahl von offiziell 349 Fahrzeugen gebaut und nur an ausgewählte Kunden verkauft. Das Auto ist ein zweitüriger, zweisitziger Roadster mit einem abnehmbaren Hardtop. Der Chassis ist aus Kohlefaser; durch die strenge Leichtbauweise beträgt das Gewicht des Sportwagens nur 1.230 Kg.
Die Technik des F50 basiert auf dem Formel 1-Rennwagen von 1990, 4,7-Liter-V12 mit Stahlgussblock und Fünfventiltechnik, Radaufhängungen mit Push-Rod System. Der Unterboden ist komplett geschlossen mit Diffusor.
Das Aggregat leistet 383 kW (520 PS) bei 8500/min und beschleunigt den Ferrari F50 von 0 auf 100 km/h in nur 3,9 Sekunden. Der Spurt von 0 auf 200 km/h durchläuft der Supersportwagen in 12,9 Sekunden, die Höchstgeschwindigkeit beträgt 328 km/h. Der letzte F50 wurde im Juli 1997 in Maranello produziert. Sein Vorgänger ist der Ferrari F40 (1987-1992). Sein Nachfolger ist der Ferrari Enzo Ferrari (2002-2004).
Die Bremsanlage ist vom Hersteller Brembo. Der F50 war ab Werk mit einteiligen Magnesiumrädern mit Zentralverschluss ausgestattet. An der Vorderachse sind Felgen in der Größe 8,5 x 18 mit Reifen der Größe 245/35 ZR 18 eingebaut, an der Hinterachse Felgen in der Größe 13,0
× 18 mit Reifen der Größe 335/30 ZR 18. Ab Werk gab es Reifen von Goodyear und Bridgestone.
